BATE Borisov entertain English Premier League giants Arsenal for this crucial Europa League first knockout stage first leg at the Borisov Arena. The Belarusian minnows, now a perennial contender on the European stage, are not fancied by many pundits to pull off an unlikely triumph but they will be all out to prove they can take on Europe's elite on merit.
Crucially, BATE has already pulled a gap of almost ten points at the top of the Belarusian Vysshaya Liga and therefore can afford to rest their players in domestic competitions to be at their best for the encounter. This is of course a luxury Arsenal cannot afford. However, the odds are sharply in favor of an Arsenal win.
The last time the two met at this stadium, again in the Europa League, in September 2017, the Gunners were comfortable 4-2 winners. In the return leg 3 months later at the Emirates Stadium in London, the last time the 2 teams met, Arsenal won it 6-0.
