Croatia welcome Greece to the Maksimir stadium for the first leg of the World Cup qualifier playoffs on Thursday, November 9 as both nations scramble for one of Europe’s eight remaining slots in Russia next year.
There will be no away fans during this match, just as there won’t be any Croatia fans in the return leg in Greece three days later. As such, the hosts will be keen to get a positive result in front of their home fans at Dinamo Zagreb’s home ground.
Croatia ended their first round qualifiers with a 2-0 win over Ukraine, and have a host of experienced stars in their side to give them a qualifying chance. The likes of Luka Modric, Mario Mandzukic and Ivan Rakitic will be hungry for this.
Greece are not in any way less mighty, with the likes of Konstantinos Mitroglou, Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Georgio Samaras Samaras turning out for the Michael Skibbe coached team. They beat Gibraltar 4-0 in their last match.
