Denmark welcome the Republic of Ireland at the Parken Stadium in Copenhagen for the first leg of the sides’ World Cup playoff this Saturday, with the return leg set to be played four days later.
The hosts come into this match on the back of a 1-1 draw with Romania in October. Manager Åge Hareide is having selection headaches following injuries to key striker Nicolai Jorgensen and team captain Simon Kjaer in the last round of club assignments. Tottenham’s Cristian Erikssen is available and will lead the team from midfield, with Nicklas Bendtner as their main striker.
Republic of Ireland come into this match buoyed by a 1-0 win over Wales that helped them qualify for the playoffs at the last minute. They will miss the services of striker Sean Maguire who injured his hamstring playing for Preston a few days ago. Surprise call up Daryl Murphy was back in action for Nottingham last weekend and will be a big boost for Martin O’Neill’s side.
