It doesn’t get any easier for Iran, who play their second match of Group B World Cup fixtures against Spain on Wednesday. The Group B underdogs will be coming from an opener against Morocco and will still have to face Portugal in their last group match.
Bookmakers are giving Iran a less than 10% chance of winning at e Kazan Arena. They shouldn’t fancy themselves much either and will probably be looking to keep the scoreline decent. Mehdi Taremi will again be the man to watch in Queiroz Carlos’ side.
Spain are fighting a battle to show mental strength in the wake of head coach Julen Lopetengui’s sacking, and will again use this match to get into new manager Hierro Fernando’s system. It is time for experienced figures like Gerrard Pique and Sergio Busquets to show leadership in the side. The manager will probably rotate the team from Friday’s opener against Portugal, with Iago Aspas likely to spearhead the attack.
This will be the first meeting between the two sides.
