Liverpool and Arsenal will play the third match of the Premier League season on Saturday, 24th August at Anfield.
Liverpool and Arsenal meet this weekend at Anfield for the third match of the Premier League season. Both teams won their opening two matches and they will both be hoping to continue their perfect starts to the season.
Liverpool started with a 4 – 1 win over Norwich City and then defeated Southampton 1 – 2 in their second game, in between they won the Super Cup on penalties against Chelsea. Arsenal won their first game 0 – 1 against Newcastle and then defeated Burnley 2 – 1 in their second. These results mean that the teams are first and second in the league respectively, and they will both be eager to try to maintain their leads, even at this early stage of the season.
Since 2005, the teams have played each other 35 times in all competitions, most recently in December last year when Liverpool defeated Arsenal 5 – 1. Their previous two meetings ended in draws but Arsenal has not defeated Liverpool since April 2004. That said, Arsenal have won 13 of their meetings and Liverpool have won 9, with 13 games ending in draws. This game is sure to be a battle and Arsenal may well be satisfied with another draw.
