Liverpool and Newcastle United will play the fifth match of the Premier League season on Saturday, 14th September at Anfield.
Liverpool and Newcastle United meet this weekend at Anfield for the fifth match of the Premier League season. Liverpool are the only team left in the league to have won every match of the season so far, and while this game shouldn’t be a real challenge for them, that is sure to add pressure.
In their last game Liverpool defeated Burnley 3 – 0 and this came after victories over Arsenal, Southampton and Norwich City. They also defeated Chelsea in the Super Cup and next week their Champions League title defence gets underway. Newcastle United have been less successful in recent weeks. They drew with Watford in their last game and they surprised many with a 0 – 1 win over Tottenham, but they have also recently lost to Leicester City, Norwich City and Arsenal.
The teams have of course met numerous times in the league and other competitions in recent years. Liverpool have won their last three matches, and the two previous ones ended in a draw. Newcastle United last defeated Liverpool in December 2015 and the time before that was November 2014.
