Manchester City are currently second in the league with 10 points having won 3 games, drawn 1 and lost 1. Watford are twentieth in the league with 2 points, having drawn 2 games and lost 3. Both teams will be disappointed with their starts to the season, and will be eager to secure some points.
Last weekend Manchester City suffered a shock 3 – 2 loss to Norwich City. This came after they defeated Brighton 4 – 0, AFC Bournemouth 1 – 3, and drew 2 – 2 with Tottenham Hotspur. Watford have had the far poorer start to the season, they drew 2 – 2 with Arsenal last weekend, and 1 – 1 with Newcastle United the week before. However, before that they lost to West Ham United, Everton and Brighton.
They teams have played numerous times in the league and other competitions in recent years. Most recently they played in the FA Cup in May this year and Manchester City won 6 – 0. Manchester City also won all of their previous encounters dating back to April 2007 when they drew 1 – 1. Based on this, it is going to be a truly tough test for Watford.
